Behind the Old Rectory in Sudborough, lies an irresistible English garden in Northamptonshire open to the public. The Rectory sits amid two and a half acres of land sloping gently down to Harper’s brook and beyond into open countryside. The Old Rectory Gardens are open to the public between March and September.
The gardens are generously proportioned with well stocked borders lining sweeping lawns leading to the brook; from here visitors to the Old Rectory Gardens can cross the rustic bridge to explore the shady woodland area.
Wandering through the gardens you are likely to find a profusion of Snowdrops, Aconites, Hellebores and Narcissi in Spring. A little later the blossom of the Prunus and Apple trees create an even more beautiful scene. This is followed by the superb and extensive collection of Iris and Peonies, both herbaceous and enormous Tree Peonies. Summer is the time to enjoy the fragrant David Austin roses filling the formal rose circle, surrounded by Nepeta, Delphiniums and Salvias. The many containers on and around the Rectory terrace, filled with Agapanthus, Pelargoniums and herbs, complete a delightful picture.
The decorative Potager designed by renowned writer and gardener Rosemary Verey has been much admired, with an ever changing mixture of flowers, fruit, vegetables and herbs growing alongside one another within a pattern of box hedges and brick paths. The beds are all arranged around a central rose arbour and the symmetry, softenened edges and subtle colours are so pleasing to the eye that it is a garden to delight anyone as well as being a source of inspiration.
Featured in books and national magazines the Old Rectory Gardens have attracted visitors from all around the 
world, whether as knowledgeable gardeners or those just wanting to enjoy a place of elegance and tranquillity.

This beautiful Northamptonshire garden is open to the public to visit between March and September. The Old Rectory Gardens are at Sudborough, between Thrapston and Corby just off the A6116.
